Sussex Farmhouse

We wanted to bring back the atmosphere of a traditional farmhouse garden by using a mix of fruit and flowers; the productive and the ornamental. Bringing in some very large, wonderful antique pear trees gave us an instant sense of scale and age, so it feels like the garden has existed forever. Lots of old fashioned roses are trained on walls, arches, and to tumble out of trees, filling the air with scent. More roses, lavender and topiary are randomly placed between flower beds and lawns, creating a very relaxed and casual air. We encourage moss and self-seeding plants to grow in the cobbles and chippings so that nothing feels too manicured or over-designed.
