A walled garden

Within the beautiful old walls of this garden in Sussex we put back a full kitchen garden, with not only greenhouses, vegetables and salad, but also trained fruit and beds for wonderful flowers for cutting for the house. The scale of the garden is far larger than is needed for these kitchen garden elements alone, so around the edges we created huge herbaceous borders punctuated with large copper beech topiary, and a sunken spiral lawn where you can lose yourself on a summers' day, screened by a wall of herbaceous grasses just listening to the humming of the insects.
