A garden in Norfolk

Arriving at this extraordinary, romantic hall in north Norfolk we found only minimal remains of the Tudor garden which we know once existed. Our brief was not to re-create those gardens but to design something new, which had echoes of its history.  The garden was on three main levels, but there was no longer a connection between them. We put in steps to physically link the areas but also designed elements that visually draw the garden together. Topiary and oak are used in different ways throughout, and are softened with wild flowers or musky herb and herbaceous under-planting.
