A contemporary garden
For Bowling Green in Derbyshire
Ancient and modern are successfully combined on the interior of
my client's house in Derbyshire - and we wanted to continue that
feel in the garden. We planted a grid of copper beech cubes that
give a bold structure to the open space, and contrasted that with
the soft planting of herbaceous grasses and flowers in square beds
to the sides. An indented lawn at the centre is a subtle repeat of
the pattern found in the terrace of the main hall garden below and
adds pattern without becoming fussy. Against the house we have
magnificent scented roses and a deep herbaceous border.
